Lamb2Ewe are excited to be working with one of the most decorated showjumpers of all time and Olympian John Whitaker MBE.
Born in Huddersfield in 1955 John lived on a Dairy Farm with his parents and three brothers. His mother, Enid, was a keen horse rider but gave it all up to care for her young family. When she decided to get her boys into horse riding as a healthy hobby, little did she know she was starting a legacy of champions.
From a young age, John had a love for horses and horse riding, learning to ride on the ponies the family used to make milk deliveries from their dairy farm.
John is an international showjumper, at the top of his sport for four decades. His horse riding career has seen him achieve 24 Olympic, World Championship and European Championships Medals, and one of his most famous horses, Milton, was the first every showjumping horse to win one million in prize money. Today the legacy continues and John’s son Robert and daughters Joanne and Louise have also taken up the reigns to become horse riding champions in their own right.
In 1979, after John married his wife Clare, they moved to Heyside Farm in Upper Cumberworth, raising competition horses and later Stallions at Stud and Cattle on what is now 140 acres of land.
John’s established career is still going strong to this day. Along with his horse selling business at Heyside Farm, he is the Managing Director of John Whitaker International, an exclusive, high-quality producer of equestrian items. In his spare time he also still continues in his parent’s hoof-prints by running the family dairy farm and looking after his heard of cattle.
